The friend in the name.
Edward was born in the Soviet Union in 1953 and arrived in New York on 23 March 1990. He bussed tables, drove for a car service and cleaned asbestos because it paid well. In 1993 he became an agent for John Hancock. In 1994 he had saved enough to open Friends Insurance Brokerage on Nostrand Avenue.
Thirty-one years later Alex Braylovskiy runs it from the same storefront.
